Waterlooville North Safer Neighbourhood Team update

Waterlooville North Safer Neighbourhood Team report on the
actions taken to deal with issues in Milton Road, one of their
current priority areas:
'We received complaints from residents that road users have been
driving carelessly and dangerously in the area of Hart Plain
Avenue, from the London Road to the Milton Road. This included
complaints of dangerous parking outside the schools on Hart Plain
Avenue causing congestion and possible danger to children leaving
the schools. There were also reports of drivers disobeying the no
right turn from Milton Road onto Hart Plain Avenue (opposite the
Co-op), and the no left turn from Hart Plain Avenue onto Milton
Road. In response to these complaints the police visited the area
on five occasions to provide advice to drivers and to issue
fixed penalty notices when necessary.
These events was well received by members of the public and
many people stopped to talk to the officers.
During these operations officers moved vehicles on from Hart
Plain Avenue. We arranged for the traffic warden to attend, and at
least one fixed penalty notice was issued by them. Twenty
drivers of vehicles were witnessed not wearing seatbelts and
warning letters were sent. A driver of a vehicle that was
witnessed driving on the pavement at the time that children
were leaving the school was issued with a fixed penalty
notice. Three fixed penalty notices were issued for drivers
carrying out a right turn where prohibited and a fixed penalty
notice was issued to an individual who was not wearing a
seatbelt. Lastly, someone was issued with a fixed penalty
notice for cycling on the footpath. Officers were informed
that vehicles also park on the grass verge on Milton Road, which we
will monitor.
This area will remain a priority for the Waterlooville North
Safer Neighbourhoods Team as local residents at the Hart Plain
Neighbourhood Panel Meeting felt that this was an important issue
to focus on.'
