Neighbourhood Development across the Borough
"Working with you to improve the quality of your
Neighbourhood"
The key role of a Neighbourhoods Development Officer is to
provide support to people of all ages and walks of life to help
them to improve the quality of their neighbourhoods. Working
closely with our Community Development Officers from Havant Borough
Council, local Councillors and the Voluntary Sector we also provide
support in the form of advice on matters such as fund raising and
planning applications to community associations and other groups
across the Borough.
Here's
the

Neighbourhood development joins forces with students of
Southdowns college...
Students from Southdown’s College have joined forces with Havant
Borough Council (Neighbourhood Development) in a bid to clear the
streets of litter.
Over 20 students, studying BTEC level 3 extended diploma in
Outdoor adventure collected litter around the college and local
residential area as part of the ‘impact and sustainability’ unit of
their course.
The event, organised by the college’s students’ together with
Havant Borough Councils Neighbourhood Development Officer Laura
Bevis and the rangers took place between Southdown’s college,
College Road and Crookhorn precinct in Crookhorn Lane.
The majority of litter that was collected consisted of coke
bottles, sandwich and chocolate wrappers, fish and chip boxes and
crisp packets, believed to of been dropped by other college
students using the popular route.
The borough’s Environment Rangers will continue to work with
these and other students to
* Educate other students to use litter bins and not throw their
rubbish on the floor
* Advertise this project within the College to ensure other
students are aware of the problem
* Keep local residents informed of what the project is trying to
achieve
* Patrol the area on a regular basis to continue keeping the
area clean and tidy.
Anyone found littering is subject to receive a Fixed Penalty
Notice of up to £75.

Hayling Island Skate Park Gets a
Facelift!
At the start of 2011 Southern Water, The Blue Lamp
Trust and Havant Borough Council kindly donated £4,000 towards
a very exciting project on Hayling Island. The skate park on the
seafront desperately needed a face lift!.
5 workshops for young people aged 13-18 were held at the
Hayling Island Community Centre in March which were very well
attended, these were lead by Mark Lewis (Art & Soul Traders)
who taught the local young people how to express their ideas
creatively. Their water theme designs were then used to
revamp the Hayling Skate Park, all of the local young people
involved took the time to paint the Skate Park themselves with Mark
Lewis. Below are the workshop, before and very exciting after
pictures of the skate park.
