Safer Havant tackle dangerous cycling in town centre

Havant Borough Council and the Police visited the footbridge over Havant Railway Bridge last week to raise awareness of the cycling ban over the bridge and give information on the Highway Code.   A number of individuals who were seen cycling over the bridge were given advice and were warned by the police that they could be given a fixed penalty fine.  The Partnership gave all cyclists a leaflet and spoke to passers-by about local community safety issues.  This operation was organised in response to a number of recent complaints about nuisance cycling from local residents who used the bridge.  For guidance and advice on cycling please follow the link below:

Government urges teenagers to stand up against domestic abuse

The Government has launched a new campaign aiming to show that domestic abuse is never acceptable in teenage relationships after research has shown that at least one in four under eighteen year olds has suffered from some sort of relationship abuse.  Abuse can be someone constantly putting you down, threatening you or forcing you to do things that you don’t want to do, and is unacceptable whatever the circumstances or context.  Abuse can harm you physically and emotionally as well as leaving you feeling isolated and lonely.

The Government’s new website ‘This is Abuse’ gives information and advice on what to do if you spot signs of abuse in your own or a friend’s relationship.  The site includes live debates, frequently asked questions and a series of short films on the signs of emotional and physical abuse.  Follow the link below if you are a young person who thinks they might be in an abusive relationship:

Find out more about the locations the Partnership are focusing on this month

The Safer Havant Partnership meets once a month to look at issues that are occurring in particular areas and to work together to resolve these problems.  Locations are chosen through analysis of crime figures and by requests for help from other agencies.

In April and May 2010 the Partnership will be focusing on the areas below:

  • Athena Avenue in Waterlooville where there have been some reports of group hanging around and drinking alcohol.  The Partnership will be putting up signs in this area to promote the ban on drinking alcohol and behaving in an anti-social manner in public places.
  • Chaffinch Green in Wecock, where there has been some reports of low-level anti-social behaviour.  The Partnership will be working together to visit those responsible for the behaviour and hope to task the Community Payback team to clean up this area.
  • Purbrook Way in Warren Park, where there has been a slight rise in criminal damage.  The Partnership have asked CCTV to focus on this area in the month ahead.
